Processor
| Date:11/1/2002 6:14:39 PM | My AMD Processor has a VERY small crack in the core. Is it still under warranty?
| | Recently, AMD has been cracking down (un-intentional pun) on these types of returns. Up until recently, they have been accepting them, but now they are sending them back to us and telling us that the warranty has been voided due to the crack. Effective immediately, we cannot replace any AMD processors with any crack, no matter how small until AMD replaces the CPU. If AMD returns the CPU to us, we MUST return it back to you. | Date:3/6/2000 | I've just purchased a K6 2/550, for some reason it will run without any problems at 500MHZ but when I try to clock it at 550MHZ the system will not be stable, is there a solution to this problem?
| | Yes, as the K6-2/550 CPU is hotter than it's predecessor's, it requires a better than average heat sink & fan. | | Author: bob@bob.com |
| Date:2/5/2000 | I just purchased a one of the new Celeron 566, and I have noticed that using it with any motherboard that the multiplier will only support 8x 66MHZ, does this mean that this processor wont work in my motherboard?
| | Since the Celeron 566 is Multiplier locked; the motherboard will always see the CPU at 8.5 no matter what you set your BIOS to. | | Author: PCCANADA |
| Date:4/1/1930 | I have just purchased a new AMD K6 2/350, 400, 450, 500, 550 processor, and for some reason after I install Windows 95, my computer gives me a Windows protection error, is there any way that I can solve this?
| | Yes, there is a patch that can be applied to fix this problem, first download the patch at http://www.pccanada.com/drivers/amdwin98se.zip, then save it to a floppy.
1. Under clock, yes Under clock your processor to run at 300MHZ
2. Restart Windows 95
3. Run the patch in Windows 95
4. Clock your processor back to the regular operating speed.
Please note that this fix will only work if you''re running Windows 95 OSR2, you can find out if you are by checking two things, the first one being look at the CD that you installed Windows from, if it says "with USB Support" then yes you have Windows 95 OSR2. The other way to tell is by going into Windows, and then going to the system properties. There it will tell you what version of Windows you are running as it will either say Windows 95 or Windows 95B. | | Author: PCCANADA |
