Motherboard
| Date:8/25/2006 12:51:12 PM | My new AMD AM2 based system is unstable and refuses to function correctly with my DDR2 memory, what can I do?
| | Many DDR2 memory modules will not be stable when run at the default 1.8V reference voltage. You may need to edit the memory configuration in the BIOS in order to operate your computer system.
If you install only one module, the system should be stable enough to enter the BIOS and alter the configurations. Please consult your motherboard user manual for instructions on how to enter the BIOS and which section of the menus the memory reference voltage is located.
In testing, we have found that almost every AM2 system with stability issues is fixed when the memory is run at 2.0V. Some motherboard may only allow up to 1.95V configuration, if your particular motherboard is limited in this way, please test it at 1.95V.
You can confirm that the memory is running correctly by downloading and testing with Goldmemory diagnostics, which you can download here | | Author: richard@pccanada.com |
| Date:1/19/2006 9:55:15 AM | I recently purchased an ECS 760-GX bundled with an AMD XP-M 2800+ CPU, but when I view the CPU settings within windows or other testing software, It is reported as running at 800MHz, not 1600MHz which AMD indicates as the correct speed. How do I fix this?
| | This motherboard/CPU combination contains an AMD Athlon64 Mobile processor. Because this motherboard is not a mobile unit (i.e. a notebook), it lacks the CPU controls to alter the performance characteristics on demand. When used in a mobile soloution, the computer will allow the CPU to be set to a lower performance level to enhance battery life and lower system temperature.
In order to gain the full performance of the CPU, this motherboard requires manual configuration of the clock multiplier and CPU voltage reference. You will need to enter the BIOS configuration by pressing the <DEL> key at boot time. Once in the BIOS configuration menu, select the Power Management menu item. When you have chosen this menu item, please set the following:
| FID Control | x8 1600MHz |
| VID Control | 1.125V |
These settings have been tested by the technical staff at Premier Computer Canada, and have provided stable operation. However, due to differences in manufacturing processes and batch yields, these settings may not be appropriate for all systems. If you are experiencing stability problems, you may either increase the VID Control one or two steps more voltage, or contact Premier Computer Canada for further assistance.

| Date:5/22/2004 2:35:35 PM | I just completed installing the updates available from Microsoft, and now my onboard gigabit lan adapter does not function. How do I fix this?
| | The drivers available from Microsoft for the Marvell Gigabit lan do not function properly, this adapter is found on the P4P800-SE and many other high end Asus motherboards. You can either reinstall the drivers from the motherboard CD, or use the roll-back function within the device manager to go back to working driver versions. | | Author: tech@pccanada.com |
| Date:2/16/2004 3:00:43 PM | Why is Windows XP unstable and locks up the system on my Tyan 2390B?
| Windows XP on the Tyan 2390B doesn''t play well with ACPI the way it''s implemented on the motherboard. You have to shut it off in the bios, and then REINSTALL XP.
Go into the Bois by pressing the DEL key on the very first screen on post, this will bring you to the Bios Menu. Look for Power Management Setup, there you will see ACPI Function, it will be Enabled, Disable it. Once you have done that press F10, and then press “Y” to accept Save changes and Exit. The system will reboot as it normal does.
Format the Hard drive and reinstall Windows XP.
After Windows XP has been installed, the system won’t shutdown by itself, a message displaying “It is now safe to turn off your computer” will appear when you do shutdown the system.
To fix this, go into the Control Panel, then into Power Options.
Click the APM Tab, Select Enable Advanced Power Management Support, and then click OK. Your computer will now shutdown properly.

| Date:10/19/2002 9:45:30 AM | I have an Asus P4S8X and PC 2700 and I am having problems with page fault errors or any type of memory errors. How do I fix it?
| | We have seen this problem before with PC2700 and up. The fix right now is to download BIOS v.1004 from Asus'' site. It will lack in speed performance but atleast you will not get any more errors. It seems like a fair temporary fix. | | Author: PCCANADA |
| Date:5/3/2000 | I cannot format NTFS under Windows 2000 on P3V4X. How do I fix it ?

| Date:5/1/2000 | I recently bought the following equipment:
ATX Case
QDI Advance 10E Motherboard
128MB PC133 Memory
ATI Xpert 2000 PRO
Running Windows ME
The problem I'm having is every time I install the drivers and reboot the computer all I get is a black screen when windows starts. Is there anything that I can about this issue?
| | We have been informed by QDI that the ATI Xpert 2000 PRO will sometimes show these issues. Their solution was to set the AGP mode to 2x instead of 4x and install the driver, reboot, go into windows, and if everything is ok, then try changing the mode back to 4x AGP. | | Author: PCCANADA |
| Date:3/5/2000 | I've got a SoundBlaster PCI 128 or an Ensoniq sound card. I've also got an ABIT KA7 motherboard, when I set up the card after I reboot I hear a high pitched noise, is there something wrong with the sound card, or am I doing something wrong?
| | This is a well-known problem with a simple solution. In order to fix this problem go into the bios of your motherboard and find a setting called memory hole. Change it from disabled to 15-16m. That's it. | | Author: PCCANADA |
